What is the State Land Board?

The State Land Board is a constitutionally created agency that manages a $4 billion endowment of assets for the intergenerational benefit of Colorado’s K-12 schoolchildren and public institutions. The agency is the second-largest landowner in Colorado and generates revenue on behalf of beneficiaries by leasing three million surface acres and four million subsurface acres for assorted purposes. We are entirely self-funded and receive no tax dollars. We are a 147-year old, constitutionally chartered agency, and we take pride in being entrepreneurial and business-savvy. We compete in private sector markets daily and generate more than $100 million in revenue annually.

The job opportunity

Under guidance from our CFO and under direct supervision from our Finance Manager/Controller, you’ll be trained in day-to-day accounting support and leading a business from the inside. Literally all revenue dollars received by our agency flow through this position. Here are the details of the things we’ll teach you:

  • Payment Receipting: record the receipt of all revenue payments and create supporting remittance documents used in Treasury deposits and funds transfer.
  • Process payments of surface and mineral rent in ATLAS (Automated Trust Lands Asset System), create revenue journal entries in ATLAS for all revenue received, and create CORE IETs for all revenue received.
  • Work with customers and staff to resolve issues with payments made.
  • Do CORE Payment Processing. Do data entry of all CORE payment documents (GAX) not associated with encumbrance documents, and audit and payment processing of all travel reimbursement requests.
  • Maintain all digital revenue records, including the creation, retention and management of backup documentation, and other duties as required.
  • And, of course, other duties as assigned. Part of any job is to be flexible and supportive of things that come up unexpectedly.

To this training opportunity we ask that you bring an open mind, a positive energy, a willingness to learn and attention to detail. Accuracy is the key to this role. This position supports efficient revenue collection and distribution to the trust beneficiaries through the timely and accurate recording of revenue and expenditures. Success in this role has a significant impact on the ability of the Program Managers to manage their business plans and monitor the revenue generated which in turn supports success of the agency's Strategic Plan.
