We lease 2.8 million acres of trust land for grazing, dry land crop production, and irrigated farming.

Per Statute, we publish quarterly reports for agriculture leases that are expiring and available for public bid.

These reports are posted no later than the first day of May, August, November, and February of each year on our website and in the county office in which the lease is located.  

There are specific instructions for both renewal and competitive bid applications, so please contact the district office for details.

Per statute, existing agriculture leases who are in good standing may match a competitive bid when their lease nears expiration and is up for bid. Please contact your district manager for more information.

Q&A

Here are commonly asked questions about renewing leases and making a bid on an expiring lease.

Call or visit the district office for the area in which you are interested. Expiring agriculture and recreation leases are posted on the State Land Board website on a quarterly basis.

The expiring lease report lists the current lessee. You may also call or visit the district office for the area in which you are interested, or you may access the online map server.

Contact the district office to obtain information regarding the lease and the application packet. Staff will provide a summary of improvements on the property. The successful bidder must purchase any lessee‐owned improvements (fence, tanks, etc.) on the property prior to assuming the lease. Before a private recreation lease is issued, the District Manager must review and approve the recreation use management plan submitted as part of the recreational lease application. Proof of liability insurance in the amount of at least $1,000,000 will be required upon approval of the recreational use application. For recreation leases, there is a non‐refundable $100 application fee.

For agriculture leases, there is a non‐refundable $100 application fee plus one year’s rental at the offered amount.

Complete application packets are due at least 180 days before expiration of the existing lease.
